Independent Projects
Congratulations! You've made it to your independent project portion of your rotation. This is a time for you to explore what truly interests you!
Considerations:
Considerations:
- This is a capstone project: The project should be the culmination of your experience here at Jockey Hollow. Please try to challenge yourself!
- Many projects are available at no cost to you. However, some projects have expensive parts (pens, clocks etc) and will require additional funding.
- "With great power comes great responsibility" -Voltaire. I will be assigning you a large amount of class time and freedom. With those liberties I'm trusting you to be mature enough to manage your time, behavior and work ethic. If I see a lack of those qualities, your grade and freedoms will be negatively affected.
- Consider our constraints: When thinking of a project to make think of our limitations. You might really want to build a half-pipe for your backyard, however I can't supply you with $200 worth of plywood, constant 1 on 1 help, 1 month worth of class time, etc.
- Consider your strengths and weaknesses: This is very important! If you are absolutely terrified of using power tools maybe consider making a digital project instead, or a woodworking project that will involve hand tools. Remember, you want to appropriately challenge yourself.
- At the end of the project- You will showcase what you've done to your classmates!

(It's like the CNC machine but without the threat of a tool spinning 20,000 rpm and you wanted a sign carved .5" deep but forgot the . and now the machine is going to try and push this spinning death tool 5 inches through your workpiece and table and destroy everything)
Here's a video below to get you started- but there is a good amount of research before you start! (video coming soon!)

Another classic. Make your own clock! These make great gifts, or simply great decoration to your room. Heck if they are good, you could even sell them at the strawberry festival ;).
They are easy to make, simply gather a piece of pine (available through me). Hop on the computer and print out a picture you like. Make necessary size changes (First step is to choose the image you want on Google. The best images to print out have more of a defining shape, than a defining drawing. Think Apple logo over the Mona Lisa, the Mona Lisa will involve a huge amount of difficult painting to look halfway close...While the Apple logo just needs a coat of white paint. Right click on the image and save to desktop. Then simply open the picture up in word and change the size. Keep in mind that for a clock with numbers- You should test the number layout on your piece of wood before you cut it out.
Cost: $4

If you don't like the bracelet idea... How about you get creative and make a necklace?
